{"id":29679,"date":"2025-04-28T13:55:42","date_gmt":"2025-04-28T17:55:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fmrq.qc.ca\/en\/our-actions-and-ideas\/\/"},"modified":"2025-04-28T13:56:06","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T17:56:06","slug":"your-rights-regarding-federal-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fmrq.qc.ca\/en\/our-actions-and-ideas\/your-rights-regarding-federal-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"Your Rights Regarding Federal Elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"29679\" class=\"elementor elementor-29679 elementor-29672\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-44f6ee9 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"44f6ee9\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;jet_parallax_layout_list&quot;:[]}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-0b61884\" data-id=\"0b61884\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6da68c3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6da68c3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Ahead of the April 28, 2025 federal election, we remind you that under the&nbsp;<em>Canada Elections Act<\/em>,&nbsp;<strong>every employee who is an elector must be given three consecutive hours for the purpose of casting his or her vote on April 28, during polling station opening hours, i.e., between 9:30 am and 9:30 pm Eastern Time.&nbsp;<\/strong>The establishment may not prevent you from exercising this right if your work hours do not enable you to count on this three-hour period for voting.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In addition, the establishment MAY NOT:<\/h3><ul><li>make a deduction from your salary,<\/li><li>impose a penalty on you, or<\/li><li>deduct a portion of your bank of leave days provided for in the collective agreement for the period it has to grant you, where applicable, for going to vote, pursuant to the Act.<\/li><\/ul><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Examples<\/h4><p><em>&#10132;&nbsp;<\/em>If you normally work between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm, the latest the establishment may release you so you can go and vote is 6:30 pm.<\/p><p><em>&#10132;&nbsp;<\/em>If you have call duty scheduled following your regular work schedule until 8 pm, the establishment could, for instance, release you until 12:30 pm on the day of the election so you can go and vote, or release you for three hours during the day.<\/p><p>The establishment determines the time in the day when the release is granted, if necessary.<\/p><p>Here is some relevant information concerning entitlement to vote.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To vote in federal elections, you must:<\/h3><ul><li>be a Canadian citizen;<\/li><li>be at least 18 years old on election day; and<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elections.ca\/content2.aspx?section=faq&amp;document=faqreg&amp;lang=e#reg2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">be registered on the electoral list<\/a>. Normally, you should receive your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.elections.ca\/content.aspx?section=res&amp;dir=glo&amp;document=index&amp;lang=e#c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Voter Information Card<\/a>&nbsp;by mail. If you have not received it, you may&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.elections.ca\/content2.aspx?section=reg&amp;document=index&amp;lang=e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">register online on the electoral list before April 22<\/a>, or at your polling place when you vote;<\/li><li>prove your identity and address.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>For opening hours and the address of your polling place:<br><\/strong>Consult the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.elections.ca\/home.aspx\">Elections Canada site<\/a>&nbsp;or your Voter Information Card.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advance voting<\/h3><p>Il est possible de voter par anticipation. Les bureaux de vote par anticipation sont ouverts de 9 h &agrave; 21 h (heure normale de l&rsquo;Est) les 18, 19, 20 et 21 avril 2025.
