Quebec resident doctors are exclusively at the service of the public health network
The next generation of doctors does not deserve to be exploited by the Quebec government in order to divert public attention from the major management problems and the glaring lack of resources that it has caused in the Quebec healthcare system.
· 100% of Quebec’s 4,000 resident doctors provide care to the Quebec population exclusively within the public health network upon obtaining their doctorate in medicine (M.D.).
• These health professionals practice there for a minimum of two years and up to 7 years or more, depending on their specialty and subspecialty of residency.
• They work an average of 72 hours per week, days, evenings and nights and up to 19 consecutive days without rest.
• Resident doctors nevertheless provide care with professionalism and rigor, for an annual remuneration which, on an hourly basis, barely exceeds the minimum wage in force in Quebec.
This should earn them a little more consideration from the Quebec government!
