Support	Rotation agreements had to be signed and supported by the department heads of the hospitals where I was to hold a fellowship, and by my department head and the Director of Medical Affairs at Sainte-Justine University Hospital (I had to have a signed contract at Saint-Justine stating that I was returning to Montreal to work after my fellowship).
Choice of site/specialization	Hôpitaux Saint-Maurice (now Hôpitaux Paris Est Val-de-Marne) for 6 months in Physical Medicine and Pediatric Rehabilitation – Congenital Limb Abnormalities and Amputations subspecialty Hôpital Armand-Trousseau for 6 months in Physical Medicine and Pediatric Rehabilitation – Spinal Dysraphism (Spina Bifida) subspecialty
Interview	Informal at conferences and on optional rotations in both sites during residency
Exams required	None
Pay/Bursary	Irma Levasseur bursary (Sainte-Justine) Paid as acting resident (faisant fonction interne, or FFI) (c. €1,500 a month)
Prior rotation	I had to have proof of certification in my medical specialty.
Work permit/visa	Restrictive permit granted by French Ministry of the Interior for medical training (application procedure has to be carried out by hospital HR department), as acting resident at Hôpitaux Saint-Maurice and associate trainee at Hôpital Armand- Trousseau)
Visitor’s visa	Long-stay visa as the spouse of a French citizen (private and family life)

Health insurance	I have dual nationality so not needed, as I was entitled to social security in France.

Bank account	I had to open a bank account in France.

Quebec Health Insurance Board (RAMQ)	Eligible to apply for an attestation for application of the Quebec-France Memorandum of Understanding concerning social protection of students and coopérants
