The Excelsior Awards have provided the Federation with an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of five medical residents to health, wellness and their university and local communities. This year, the Federation received 21 nominations in five categories. Our congratulations go to the four recipients, Drs Géraldine Godmaire-Duhaime (AMReQ), Ji Wei Yang (AMRM), David-Martin Milot (AMReS) and Martin Kuuskne (ARM), and to the winner of the Excelsior Award in family medicine, Dr Louis-Charles Moreau (AMReQ). Each recipient received a certificate of recognition along with a cheque for $750.

Win a free registration for the International Resident Leadership Summit – October 23 and 24, 2015 in Vancouver
October 23-24, 2015, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is holding the International Resident Leadership Summit (IRLS), on the theme of Transition from manager to leader: Resident leader viewpoints. In this context, a contest has been set up to give free registration to three medical residents across Canada. You have until July 17 to send in your submission. An early bird registration rate of $250 applies until September 14, rising to $285 thereafter. To enter the contest, send in your ideas (in 400 words or less) about how to enhance the teaching and assessment of the Leader Role competencies in your program. All entries must be submitted to the IRLS email address (email@example.com) and must include your full name, your e-mail address, your specialty, your year of residency, and telephone number. In January 2015, the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) declared a moratorium on waiver applications. This moratorium has now been lifted. If a facility has applied for a waiver in its physician resource plan (PEM) for you, feel free to get in touch with Marilyn Gagnon-Huot, FMRQ Co-ordinator, Physician Resources, to find out about your situation. The Physician resource management committee for specialties (COGEMS) will be meeting in the second week of July to assess applications and make decisions. On July 24, 2015, the FMRQ invites all new medical residents (R1s) to take part in its Welcoming Day, being held from 4:30 pm onward in Montreal’s Old Port. This activity is a chance for new residents to learn about the services provided by the Federation, and to get to know their collective agreement. All R1s are released to attend this event, and charter buses will be available for residents from Quebec City and Sherbrooke. Further information will be emailed to R1s.

For its 10th edition, the Golf Tournament is offering a new activity component: the BIKE tour
All medical residents are invited to take part in the 10th edition of the Medical Federation Golf Tournament, JULY 27, 2015 AT LE MIRAGE GOLF CLUB.

To enable more people to take part in this activity, a CYCLING component has been introduced.
